Dr Prussing is a gem -- truly. Serenity Mental Health has been lucky to have her services. The entire office is incredibly friendly, professional, personable, and quick, but Dr Prussing has exercised prudent and compassionate care the entire time I have worked with her to manage my medication and mental health. I feel heard and seen when I am in an appointment with Dr Prussing; I feel like I have another human being sitting across from me who truly just wants to help another human being if she can. And she has helped me and my family tremendously with her expertise and judgement.
I went here initially to treat my adhd and then I was introduced to TMS and Ketamine therapies so I went back to treat my depression and anxiety. This has been such a great facility to go to for all of the above. The staff is so kind, professional, and goes above and beyond for their patients. These folks truly want their patients to succeed and I can see that. I highly recommend checking this place out. To the staff, thank you all for being the best at what you do! You’ve given me a stellar opportunity and the tools to continue my journey.

How Is Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Diagnosed?
PTSD is determined through an extensive assessment conducted by one of our board-certified psychiatrists. Standardized self-report questionnaires might also be utilized to measure the intensity and regularity of symptoms and to identify any concurrent mental health issues.
Frequently Asked Questions
How common is post-traumatic stress disorder?
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a widespread mental health condition affecting millions of people worldwide. In the United States, it is estimated that between 6-9 percent of individuals will experience PTSD at some point in their lives. The prevalence is notably higher among veterans and first responders due to their exposure to traumatic events on the job. However, civilians who have undergone severe trauma, such as assaults, natural disasters, accidents, or the sudden death of a loved one, are also significantly affected. Growing awareness of PTSD has led to better treatment options and support systems for those in need.
How does PTSD present differently in children compared to adults?
PTSD manifests differently in children than it does in adults, with symptoms varying based on age and developmental stage. Younger children may show signs of stress through behavioral changes like increased clinginess, new fears, or regression to earlier developmental behaviors. School-aged children might experience difficulties with school performance or disturbances in their sleep patterns. Adolescents may display symptoms by engaging in risky behaviors, withdrawing from social interactions, or experiencing intense mood swings. Recognizing these age-specific symptoms is essential for providing appropriate and effective support.
Why do some individuals develop PTSD while others do not?
The development of PTSD after a traumatic event depends on a complex interplay of individual, environmental, and social factors. People with a history of mental health issues, previous traumas, or a genetic predisposition are at a higher risk. The severity and duration of the trauma, the quality of immediate support received, and the level of ongoing stress all significantly influence the likelihood of developing PTSD. Additionally, personal perceptions of the traumatic event, such as feelings of helplessness, can increase susceptibility. Strong social support networks generally reduce the risk of PTSD, whereas a lack of support can heighten vulnerability.
